KAVA
Kava has a long history in Vanuatu. It is a drink made from the pepperplant that contains a mildly intoxicating drug. A nakamal is an areawhere the men from a village gather to drink kava after a working day.Held under a large tree or ‘lean to’, the men from the village gather totalk about current issues.Often, the chief will use this time to mediate and/or make judgementon village disputes. This method of mediation and reconciliation -if an issue has reached a high level of conflict - has led to Vanuatu being very peaceful, especially compared to its Melanesian neighbours

Yasur Volcano - Tanna Island | Vanuatu

Mount Yasur is an active volcano on Tanna Island, Vanuatu with a height of 361 m above sea level, Yasur is one of the world’s most easily accessible active volcanoes in the world. Anyone can walk right up and look down into its fiery crater. Standing close to the edge of the crater can be a frightening experience however. Huge explosions from deep inside the crater frequently shake the ground and are followed by debris that shoots high into the air.It was one of the things to do on our bucket list and it was an experience we will not forget in a hurry.

Before They Pass Away by Jimmy Nelson: Vanuatu

“A girl is like a branch of nettle tree – whatever ground you plant it in, it will grow”

Settlement in the 85 Vanuatu islands dates back to around 500 BC. There is evidence that Melanesian navigators from Papua New Guinea were the first to colonise Vanuatu. Over centuries, other migrations followed. Nowadays, all the inhabited islands have their own languages, customs and traditions. Many Vanuatu believe that wealth can be obtained through ceremonies. Dance is an important part of their culture; many villages have dancing grounds called Nasara. A significant traditional event is the Toka festival on Tanna Island, a symbol of alliance and friendship between different tribes.

What if the past persists?

"All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians...can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever"

Let me invite you to time travel. The goal of this project is to mark the progress of our lives - and sculpt the present day. Our perspective challenges conceptualizations of time as the separate entities past, present, and future. We see as the Tralfamadorians, capable of visualizing the infinite dimensions connecting each moment, and most importantly, the cohesive they form. Call it the anniversary of your existence.

- Remember and reexperience
- Gauge your lifepath
- See how fellow people lived their day: our shared human experience.
